How to Check the Authenticity of Online Job Offers in Pakistan – A Legal Guide

With the rise of online job portals and social media platforms, more and more Pakistanis are applying for jobs online. Unfortunately, this growth has also led to a surge in fake job offers and scams. This guide will help you verify whether an online job offer is genuine and protect yourself from fraudulent employers.

1. Research the Employer

Always start by searching for the company’s official website and social media presence. Check if they have a physical office address and a valid contact number. Be cautious if the employer only uses free email services like Gmail or Yahoo without an official company domain.

2. Verify Registration with SECP or Relevant Authority

In Pakistan, legitimate companies are usually registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) or other relevant provincial authorities. You can use the SECP online search tool to verify if the company is officially registered.

3. Beware of Unusual Payment Requests

No genuine employer will ask you to pay an upfront “training fee” or “security deposit.” Such demands are a red flag for scams. Payments should always be from employer to employee — not the other way around.

4. Check the Job Description Carefully

Fraudulent job offers often have vague job descriptions with unrealistic salaries. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Look for specific details about the role, responsibilities, and qualifications.

5. Confirm Through Direct Contact

If you receive an email or message, call the company using their verified number (from their official website, not from the job ad) to confirm the job offer. Avoid clicking on suspicious links.

6. Use Trusted Job Portals

Platforms like Rozee.pk, Mustakbil.com, and BrightSpyre have better verification processes compared to random social media postings. Stick to trusted platforms to reduce the risk of fraud.

7. Report Suspicious Offers

If you suspect a job offer is fake, you can report it to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing via their complaint portal. This helps protect others from falling victim to the same scam.

Tip: Always keep written records (emails, offer letters, chat logs) in case you need to take legal action later.
